A man surrendered to Chiayi County police after a five-hour long siege in Minxiong Township, during which the suspect fired 50 shots and threw numerous explosives. Police officers went to a residence in a lane on Jianguo Road after neighbors reported hearing people arguing, followed by three gunshots at around 8:00am. Two Indian exchange students were declared dead at the hospital after they took a late night swim and drowned in a pond nearby their university dormitory early this morning in Chiayi County. According to United Daily News, Chiayi County Fire Bureau received a report at 2:44pm, from a location in Dalin Township, and rushed to the rescue. However, when paramedics arrived the two men had been pulled out of the pond by their companions, but had lost breathing and heartbeat.

Two men in Chiayi County died yesterday after entering a sewer with a low oxygen concentration. The two workers, 32 and 55 years-old, entered the four meter deep sewer at around 5:30pm in order to check the sewage flow. A female worker remained on the surface. At around 5:45pm, the Chiayi County Fire Bureau received an emergency call from the coworker, who said that the men had fainted. Firefighters rushed to the scene and entered the sewer wearing breathing apparatus.
