Suspected drunk driver slams head-on into scooters and a school bus

Four people were injured after a the driver of a minivan hit vehicles head-on at high speed while traveling on the wrong side of the road in Chiayi County this morning, April 19.

The van slammed into two scooters, and sideswiped a sedan, before hitting a school bus carrying 35 students to Sieh Chih Vocational High School at around 7:30am.

The fire bureau received reports of an accident on Xing-gang Road in Lunyang Village, Liujiao Township, at 7:32am.

The two scooter riders, the driver of the minivan, and a female student were taken to Beigang Mazu Hospital, and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

The 21-year-old male driving the minivan reeked of alcohol, according to Liberty Times Network and Apple Daily. The driver was not breath-tested at the scene, and required hospital treatment for facial bruising.

Police said they would have blood tests conducted on the driver.

Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening.
