The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) this afternoon issued a heavy rain warning for northern districts of Taiwan, including Taipei City, Keelung City, Taoyuan City, and mountain districts from Hsinchu County north, as Typhoon Kong-Rey passes close by on a trajectory predicted to take the storm through Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture, before heading to South Korea. Gravel Truck Overturns on Rain-Damaged Road

A truck driver escaped with minor injuries after hitting a washed out section of road in Nantou County this morning. The accident happened at around 6:30am after heavy rain overwhelmed the drainage culvert, causing a cross-section of the road to wash out. Planes were grounded at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport this morning June 2, as a lightning strike damaged a radio navigation system, and blackouts and floods affected operations at the airport.
