Heavy rain and wind advisories issued under influence of Severe Tropical Storm Kompasu
The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued heavy rain and extremely heavy rain advisories for northern and eastern districts, and some areas of the Central Mountain Range as Taiwan is affected by the influence of Severe Tropical Storm Kompasu in combination with a northeastern monsoonal airflow.
Today, October 11 has seen heavy rainfall reported in mountainous areas of Yilan County, Hualien County, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, and Nantou County, and coastal and plains areas of Keelung City, Greater Taipei, Hsinchu County, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
Warnings have been issued urging the public to remain alert to the possibility of landslides, rockfalls, and mudflows in mountain areas, and flooding in low-lying areas.
The CWB said that the center of Severe Tropical Storm Kompasu at 2:00 pm was located 410 kilometers south-southeast of Point Eluanbi, moving westward at a speed of 26 kilometers per hour.
CWB Director Zheng Mingdian took to Facebook to urge people to pay attention to the weather forecast and avoid mountain roads or entering mountainous areas.
