Two trapped by rising river airlifted to safety in Taichung City

Two people were rescued by helicopter after becoming trapped on a sandbar when the water level of Dajia River in Taichung City suddenly rose due to heavy rain upstream.

Taichung City Fire Department received reports that two people fishing in the Dajia River in Shigang District were trapped by rising water shortly after 3:00 pm. The Fire Department dispatched five fire trucks, one ambulance, an inflatable boat, and 10 personnel to conduct rescue operations.

At around 4:00 pm the National Airborne Service Corps dispatched a Black Hawk helicopter from Ching Chuan Kang Airport to assist with the rescue.

The trapped people were airlifted to safety at 4:42 pm.

The Central Weather Bureau issued heavy rain reports for 7 cities and counties this afternoon, including Pingtung County, Kaohsiung City, and mountain districts of Tainan City, Nantou County, Taichung City, and Miaoli County.
