Starr Chen/Jolin Music Video Draws Flak

Some students, and alumni of Zhongshan Girls High School in Taipei are incensed by the use of school uniforms bearing the school’s name in a new music video produced by Starr Chen, with vocals by Jolin Tsai.

The music video “Ego-holic” features bullying as the theme, and shows the story of a fat girl being bullied and physically beaten by other girls at school.

Complaints first arose about “Jolin’s new music video,” and were directed at the singer herself. The producer, Starr Chen stepped in and said the responsibility was his, as he had produced the video, which only “featured” the singer’s voice. Chen apologized on his Facebook page to Jolin and her fans for any misunderstanding.

Jolin Tsai is known to be an anti-bullying advocate.

The video was uploaded to Chen’s youtube channel 6 days ago, and was viewable within the last few hours, but the producer has now obscured the video, leaving only the music mix. The company X Entertainment captioned the video with an apology:

I am deeply disappointed that the director’s arrangement of the costumes for the women’s uniforms and the handling of the images by the women’s uniforms is regrettable.
