Postman injured in vicious pit bull attack

A postman in Hsinchu County’s Hukou Township was treated for bite injuries and a sprained ankle, after a pit bull suddenly jumped off the back of a truck and attacked him yesterday, May 10.

The postal worker named Zeng (曾), was approaching an intersection on Cheng-gong Road on his postal motorcycle when a black pit bull bitch, one of two dogs on the back of a truck stopped at a red light, leaped off the tray and attacked.

Video footage of the incident shows the dog barking excitedly as it spots the postman approaching from the rear, then attacking as the motorcycle is beside the truck.

Zeng jumped off his motorcycle and let it fall as he attempted to fight off the attack. At the same time, the driver of the truck quickly came to the postman’s assistance.

However, the pit bull had Mr Zeng’s left trouser leg in a vice-like grip, and had no intention of letting go. Zeng’s left trouser leg was torn up to his groin, and finally tore free, allowing the dog’s owner to finally secure the animal.

After the attack, Zeng had open wounds on his left leg, bite injuries on his left arm, and a sprained ankle.

The apologetic owner of the dog took Zeng to a hospital to have his wounds treated.

After having his wounds dressed, Zeng, and the dogs owner were taken to the local police station to make statements. The dog’s owner expressed his desire to settle the matter out of court. In the process, it was found that the dog had a previous record of attacking a postal worker, for which the owner had been fined NT$200, according to Apple Daily.

1 in 40 pit bulls will grievously injure or kill another animal or human, compared to 1 in 50,000 of all other dog breeds combined.

Last year, pit bulls killed a person every 9 days in the US and Canada, 30,000 other family pet dogs, 14,000 farm animals, and 17,000 cats.

Pit bulls are busy changing hearts and minds all by themselves, one victim at a time.

200 NT fine for the first attack by his dog. The fine is a joke. The punishment does not serve the crime. Raising it to 15,000 NT would serve as a real message to the dog owner.
