Police station evacuated after man walks in with unexploded wartime bomb
Police evacuated their station and called army bomb disposal experts after a man walked in with an unexploded bomb unearthed on a nearby worksite in Changhua County Wednesday, September 13.
According to reports, workers clearing a site for a landscape improvement project in Hemei Township dug up an unexploded military bomb on Wednesday afternoon. As the worksite was just 20 meters away from the Zhongliao Police Station, the site supervisor decided to pick the unexploded ordnance up and take it to the police station.
When the police officer on duty saw the bomb, he nervously told the worker to carefully place it on a flowerbed in the courtyard of the police station. The police station and people nearby were evacuated to a safe distance, a cordon was placed around the bomb, and army bomb disposal experts were called in.
Soldiers from the Army Unexploded Ordnance Disposal Team arrived and carefully wrapped the bomb in a bomb blast suppression blanket before taking it away for safe disposal.
Police warned the public that if they find unexploded ordnance they should not pick it up or move it. They urged the public to not take the bomb to the police station, but call the police, and let professionals handle the situation.
