Police arrested four suspects and confiscated 24 guns after an investigation that led to the raid of a property in Tamsui District, New Taipei City, the Taipei City Police Department announced today, August 6.
A police spokesperson said that the department had received reports several days ago that gang members possessing a large number of firearms were hiding out in Tamsui District.
A police taskforce was immediately formed to investigate the case.
Investigators identified a 27-year-old man, named Zheng, believed to be associated with the Heavenly Way Alliance. Zheng was suspected to be involved in producing and distributing drugs, and a fraud group.
After gathering evidence and obtaining search warrants, police raided a residence occupied by Zheng and his younger brother yesterday, August 5.
Police seized a total of 24 guns, including 12 shotguns and submachine guns, 12 Beretta pistols, and 1,200 rounds of ammunition. A preliminary investigation revealed that all firearms were standard weapons (not modified).
The black market value of the arsenal is estimated at NT$16 million.
Police also seized 960 drug coffee packs, 40 packets of ketamine, and NT$2.5 million in cash.
Zheng, his brother, and two other men were sent to the Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office to be charged with a range of offences relating to drugs and firearms.
