One of two imported COVID cases fully vaccinated with three doses of BioNTech
Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) today announced two new cases of COVID-19 imported from abroad, including one Taiwanese citizen who was fully vaccinated with three doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine while residing in the United States.
CECC spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said that the woman (case #16,458) is aged in her 20s and had the third dose of the BioNTech vaccine on September 10. The woman had a negative test report taken within three days of boarding her flight in the United States on October 6, and another negative test after arrival in Taiwan.
During the quarantine period, the case reported that the air-conditioning in her hotel room was too cold, and she had developed a cough. A consequent PCR test returned a positive result with a Ct value of 36.
The CECC said that one previous imported COVID-19 case had received three vaccine shots, however, the third shot had been administered less than 14 days previous to entry. Therefore, that case was recorded as a breakthrough infection in a person fully vaccinated with two doses.
Today’s case is recorded as the first breakthrough infection in a person fully vaccinated with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
