More than 500 marijuana plants seized in Pingtung County raid

Police in Pingtung County seized 524 cannabis plants, and arrested two male suspects, after raiding a farmhouse in Zhutian Township Thursday morning, November 12.

Police said at a press conference today that the bust came after an investigation spanning more than three months.

In July, police were tipped off that someone was manufacturing and selling marijuana cigarettes somewhere in the Zhutian area. After a three month long investigation two suspects and a property were identified.

On the morning of November 12, 24 police consisting of officers from the Pingtung County Criminal Investigation Bureau, Ligang Police Branch, and Chaozhou Police Branch raided the property and arrested two suspects.

A 23-year-old man named Zhang, and a 24-year-old man named Wang were said to have learned how to grow cannabis on an American website, and had purchased seeds online.

Zhang and Wang rented a two storey farmhouse for NT$40,000 per month to house the operation.

Along with the 524 plants, police also seized 500 grams of finished product, and equipment related to growing, drying, and manufacturing marijuana cigarettes.
