A young man was hospitalized with a bullet wound to his thigh, after a pistol he was carrying discharged as he was getting out of a cab in Sanxia District this morning, Monday, April 16.
The nineteen year-old man named Su had traveled to Sanxia District in a taxi with a friend named Huang. Su had a modified Taurus pistol stuffed in the waistband of his pants. At around 8:00am, Su and Huang had just exited the vehicle at a residence on Datong Road, when the pistol discharged. The bullet narrowly missed Su’s genitals, and lodged in his thigh.
According to media reports, Su screamed in agony after he was shot, but at first, nobody called an ambulance. Huang helped Su up the stairs to his home, then threw the pistol into long grass in a vacant lot next to the building.
Su, bleeding heavily, and unable to bear the pain, begged his sister to call an ambulance.
Su was rushed to Far East Memorial Hospital in Banciao District, where surgeons removed the bullet.
Medical staff informed police about the shooting incident. Police interviewed Su, and searched a grassy area at the scene of the incident, where they found a modified Taurus pistol. Police are investigating why the man was carrying a firearm, and where he acquired it.
