Conflict over amendments to the public service pension law turned physical at a meeting of the Legislative Yuan’s Judiciary and Organic Laws and Statutes Committee today, when Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) member Kung Wen-chi (孔文吉) attacked Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member Tuan Yi-kang (段宜康).
New Power Party legislator Hsu Yung-ming (徐永明) posted video of the incident to Facebook, where he commented that the KMT had engaged in hooliganism and had no intention of reviewing the draft. Hsu said the KMT actions were humiliating to Taiwan’s democracy.
A Liberty Times Network video shows KMT member Liao Kuo-tung (廖國棟) repeatedly hitting the table with a thermos flask, while others rip the microphone stand and cables out of a socket before 59 year-old Kong leaps onto, and over the table to attack Tuan.
Fellow committee members finally managed to drag the two men apart. Tuan had his glasses knocked off during the melee.
