Electric buses to replace diesel burners on Tamsui – Banqiao bus route from tomorrow

Thirteen new electric buses will join New Taipei City’s public transportation fleet tomorrow, plying route 857 between Banqiao and Tamsui districts.

Sanchung Bus Company said that 13 buses on the company’s cross-district trunk line will be replaced by Foxtron Model T electric buses. The Taiwan designed and manufactured buses were first launched in Kaohsiung City in March last year. The 857 route will be the first time the Model T is used in northern Taiwan.

The Model T has a range of 240 kilometers, and is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that can detect the distance of other vehicles, provide visual assistance for blind spots, and detect lane deviation and improper driving behaviors.

The 13 buses will increase the fleet of electric buses in Taipei/New Taipei City to 177 vehicles, or around 10%. Another 35 electric buses are expected to be added by the end of this year, with the goal of having 100% electric buses by 2030.

The 857 route passes through 7 districts of New Taipei City – Tamsui, Bali, Wugu, Luzhou, Sanchong, Xinzhuang, and Banqiao, carrying around 400,000 passengers per month.
