Drug suspect arrested after police fire 19 shots in car chase through streets of Tainan City

A suspected drug dealer in Tainan City was finally arrested after fleeing a police checkpoint and leading police on a 20 kilometer chase, during which police fired 19 shots at the suspect’s vehicle.

According to reports in United Daily News, and ET Today, a 35-year-old man, named Zhu with previous criminal convictions for drug offences sped away from a roadside checkpoint on Yongda Road in Yongkang District at 9:28 pm, Friday, November 26.

Zhu led the police on a chase through Yongkang District before entering the freeway southbound and exiting at the Rende Interchange. In Rende District, 15 police in 9 vehicles from Rende Police Precinct joined attempts to intercept Zhu.

Zhu finally crashed into parked vehicle on Wende Road and was arrested.

During the chase, one police car and a police scooter were damaged, with one officer suffering a minor foot injury. Zhu also collided with a civilian vehicle, leaving the driver slightly injured.

Police fired a total of 19 shots at Zhu’s vehicle, aiming at the tires and engine bay, according to reports. Police also recovered a pack containing amphetamine drugs allegedly thrown out of Zhu’s vehicle during the chase.
