Driver charged after girlfriend jumps out of moving car and dies

A man has been charged with negligent homicide after his girlfriend jumped out of his moving car and died in Taoyuan City two days ago.

According to reports, the 49-year-old woman, named Zeng, and her 47-year-old boyfriend, named Song, left a party in the early hours of the morning April 15. While driving on Wenlin Road in Guanyin District, the couple had an argument over “trivial matters.” Zeng then opened the car door and jumped out.

Video footage of the incident showed Song’s car travelling quite fast when Zeng jumped, rolled several times, and came to a stop in front of a house.

According to the investigation, Song stopped his car and called an ambulance. Zeng was taken to hospital but was declared dead three hours later.

Police took Song in for interrogation then handed him over to the district prosecutor to face charges of negligent homicide. According to police, Song was charged because he did not immediately stop the car when Zeng opened the door.
