Cops stand guard over drunk man asleep on road in Taichung City

Police officers in Taichung City set up traffic cones and stood guard to protect a man who was so drunk he fell asleep on the road at an intersection in South District.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 4:30 am, after a man alighted from a taxi, then promptly fell asleep on the road.

Police were unable to rouse the man from his sleep, and fire bureau paramedics were not allowed to take the man for medical treatment because he was uninjured.

Police decided to use their patrol car and traffic cones to protect the man from oncoming traffic.

The officers were able to contact the man’s parents, who live in Changhua County to come and fetch their 28-year-old son.

A kind-hearted passerby worried that the man might be cold, and covered him with sheets of newspaper.

Dawn broke, the sun rose, and around 2 hours into the man’s nap, his parents turned up to take their son home.

Only in Taiwan .. the police – the passer-by .. In any other country they would have just arrested his ass for being drunk and “disorderly”.. credit to the police – and to the good Samaritan .. there’s a reason I choose to live and work in Taiwan and this is it. Even the police are generous and compassionate.. Taiwan is a beacon of hope and goodness in the world and I’m proud and lucky to live here.
