Cocaine and Cannabis Concealed in Shock Absorbers

Customs officers at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport intercepted shipments of cocaine and cannabis hidden in shock absorbers on October 20 and October 23 respectively and police made two arrests yesterday when the suspects attempted to take delivery of the shipments.

An x-ray examination of the shock absorbers drew customs officers’ attention October 20, and after cutting one open, the officers found cocaine. A total of 3.983kg of cocaine was found in the shipment. The Customs Bureau and Police agencies formed a task group to investigate and find the importers.

On October 23, another shipment of the shock absorbers was discovered to contain 15.238kg of cannabis. Later the same day, two suspects were arrested, one in Shenkeng District, New Taipei City, and one in Neihu District, after attempting to take delivery of the goods. The suspects told police that they had been paid NT$3,000 and NT$8,000 respectively to take delivery of the goods on behalf of a friend, and had no idea of the contents.
