Update: A 72 year-old woman among the injured has died, and an 83 year-old man has been charged with negligent homicide. A car plowed into a group of stationary scooter riders waiting at a red light in Kaohsiung today, knocking down vehicles and riders like bowling pins and resulting in injuries to five people. At 5:30pm this evening, seven scooters were stopped at a red light at an intersection in Renwu Township, when the car careered into them from behind.

Three people were sent to hospital after a taxi t-boned an ambulance, causing it to tip over onto its side in Taichung this morning, August 9, 2016. The ambulance was taking a 90 year-old woman to hospital for medical treatment when the accident occurred at 10:16am. The patient and nurse suffered face and head trauma but were both conscious when taken to hospital. The taxi driver was also hospitalized after complaining of chest pain after the accident.

A woman was killed and three passengers injured when a boulder plunged through the roof of a tourist coach traveling on the National Cross Island Highway this afternoon. The bus was carrying 35 passengers who departed Taipei at 7:00am on a day trip to Hualian. The accident happened at 1:40pm. The deceased and one injured passenger were rushed to Tzu Chi Hospital in Hualian. The two other injured passengers declined further medical treatment after being treated at the scene.

Two cyclists died this morning when a taxi driver drove down the wrong side of the road and hit them at high speed on the Su-Hua Highway in Hualian County. Witnesses of the accident frantically tried to revive the men, aged 50 and 26, using CPR until ambulances reached the scene, but both men were pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. The taxi driver was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.76.

An American psychology professor died on July 10 after being hit by a bus while crossing a road in Taipei. University of California, Santa Cruz Professor of Psychology Bruce Bridgeman was visiting Taiwan to give a lecture at Taipei Medical University. Last Update 14:50 A tour coach crashed into the guardrail after catching fire and going out of control on National Highway 2 near the airport interchange at around midday. Wet weather across Taiwan this week has resulted in many traffic accidents. Yesterday, Saturday August 29, a two-vehicle collision on the national highway at Chiayi led to further collisions as other drivers failed to brake on time on the slippery road.
