Bus Rolls Over after Suspected Brake Failure

The driver of an empty school bus suffered broken ribs and bruises after the bus rolled over on a downhill section of Yangde Boulevard in Shilin District, Taipei City, this morning July 31.

The bus had delivered students to Huaxing High School at 7:00am and was returning to the depot when, according to the 60 year-old driver, Mr Weng, the brakes failed as it was heading downhill. As the bus accelerated, it veered into the center of the road, knocking over flexible traffic separators, sending cars swerving to avoid the careering vehicle.

The driver then deliberately swerved into the wall on the right hand side of the road in an attempt to slow down and stop the vehicle. However, after making contact with the wall, the driver lost control and the bus rolled over onto its side.

Drunk driving and fatigue driving have been ruled out as the cause of the accident, and mechanical failure is currently being investigated as the main suspect in the crash.

After causing traffic jams, the accident scene was finally cleared at around 9:30am, allowing two-way traffic to resume.

Why is the bus operator name blocked out of the picture . Amazing how many buses have mechanical problems in Taiwan !! Can’t imagine how that could happen .
