Air, land, sea search for missing intoxicated Brit ends with good news

An air, land, and sea search for a man who was believed missing after leaving a beachside bar in Kenting to go swimming this morning was called off when he was found asleep in his hotel room.

According to reports, the 35-year-old British resident of Kaohsiung City left his wallet, phone, and clothing at the bar to go for a swim in South Bay, but failed to return.

The bar owner found the man’s belongings when he was about to close the bar at around 5:00 am, and reported the case to the police.

Police, the fire department, coast guard, and local tourism operators joined in a search for the man.

Coast Guard boats were dispatched from the Hengchun Station and notification was broadcast to nearby fishing boats via Donggang Fishery Radio.

A National Airborne Service Corps helicopter was requested, and arrived in the area at 9:12 am.

When a police officer named Zeng reported to work at the Kenting Police Station this morning, he realized that the man his colleagues were searching for was the same man who had come to the police station to report a missing guesthouse room card the previous afternoon. Zeng went to the guesthouse in Nanwan and found the man safe and sound, asleep in his bed.

The search was called off at 9:31 am.
