4 people rescued after car lands on house roof

Residents of a house in a mountainous district of Tainan City probably thought it was a little early for Santa to arrive when they found a car parked on their roof today, October 11.

The Tainan City Fire Department received a report shortly after 2:00 pm that a car with four occupants had slipped over a slope and landed on the roof of a house in Nanxi District. The Fire department dispatched five vehicles and 10 personnel from stations in Nanxi and Yujing to assist with the rescue.

Firefighters used an aluminium ladder to assist the three men and one woman out of their predicament. Some of the rescued suffered minor bruising, and one woman was sent to Madou Sin-Lau Hospital to be treated for shoulder pain.

According to statements by the people who were trapped in the vehicle, the driver had been using GPS navigation in an attempt to find the “secret scenic spot,” Bat Cave Falls. However, the group strayed onto a narrow dead-end track, and slipped off the slope when attempting to turn around and return to the road.
