3 dead: Driver who caused horrific high-speed crash the only survivor

Three people died after a speeding driver slammed into the back of a car then careered head-on into another vehicle in Yilan County this morning, June 6.

According to reports, a 62-year-old man, named Wu, was driving a Volvo sedan at high speed when he crashed into the back of a Mitsubishi minivan driven by a 42-year-old woman named Zhong at the intersection of Zhenan Road and Xibin Road in Wujie Township at around 7:40 am. Wu’s vehicle then crashed into a light truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Zhong, who was driving her daughter to school at the time of the accident, was thrown out of the car by the force of the impact. Fire department paramedics found Zhong obviously dead at the site of the crash and did not send her to hospital. Zhong’s 17-year-old daughter was without vital signs and was later declared dead at the hospital.

The 50-year-old driver of the light truck, named Chen, was cut out of his mangled vehicle, and was also without vital signs when sent to hospital. Chen was unable to be resuscitated and was also later declared dead.

Mr Wu, who is suspected of driving too fast and not paying attention to the situation in front of his vehicle, according to the preliminary police investigation, was seriously injured but with stable vital signs. Wu is currently being treated for his injuries.
