21-year-old police officer critically injured after collision with unlicensed teen scooter rider

The family of a police officer who was critically injured in a high speed collision while responding to an emergency call has agreed to donate his organs and corneas, after doctors declared the patient to have suffered brain death.

The 21-year-old police officer, Yang Ting-hao, and two other officers, were riding police scooters with sirens and lights on when a 17-year-old male, also on a scooter, slammed into Yang at high speed at the intersection of Da’an Road and Junying Street in Shulin District, New Taipei City, shortly after midnight yesterday, August 2.

Yang lost vital signs at the scene of the accident, but paramedics restored heartbeat and breathing and rushed him to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital.

The unlicensed rider, named Zhang, suffered a minor head injury and remained conscious.

Yang suffered serious head injuries and remained in a coma with a coma index of 3. After 24 hours it was found that Yang had no brain function and there was no chance of recovery.

Yang’s family signed consent forms today to allow Yang’s organs and corneas to be donated after he is extubated.

Yang had only served as a police officer for 10 months.

I know a foreigner who was in the same situation. He was going through a GREEN light when a TEEN was running the RED. He hit the teen killing him. He then gave CPR to the teen bringing him back to life. Taiwan COURTS ordered him to pay the teen millions in compensation. Even though the teen had no license and ran a red. Taiwna courts are a joke….a very pathetic joke.
