Evergreen Airlines (EVA Air) is facing criticism after landing, and attempting to land airliners during a category three typhoon that swept across Taiwan on September 27. Passengers and crew reported passengers vomiting, crying, and fainting, during landing attempts. Passengers endured hours of circling before pilots made sometimes multiple landing approaches before aborting and diverting to other airports. One plane that made a successful landing was left stranded on the tarmac, while passengers waited more than 3.5 hours to be disembarked.

Three backhoe drivers working on a demolition site in Tainan City were lucky to escape with their lives when the ground they were working on collapsed beneath them. The ground crumbled away slowly enough for the operators to jump out of the machines before they toppled over and sank into the more than 3 meter-deep hole.

A 700 ton mobile crane collapsed onto buildings at a port in Hualien this morning. Operators blame high winds generated by an approaching typhoon. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident. The crane operator managed to jump out of the cabin, and there were no tourists on the whale-watching wharf, as cruises were canceled due to the approach of Typhoon Megi.
