Woman Killed by Train After Fainting on Station Platform

A 38 year-old woman died after fainting on platform 4 of Taipei Main Station this morning. A train was pulling into the station when the woman suddenly collapsed and fell forward, with head and shoulders protruding over the edge of the platform. The train driver hit the emergency brake, but was not able to stop in time to avoid hitting the woman.

Paramedics found the woman, named Zhang, had suffered head trauma and had no signs of life at the scene. Witnesses said that the Tz Qiang class limited express was pulling into the station at 7:28 am when Ms Zhang, who was standing behind the yellow safety line, suddenly collapsed into the path of the train.

The Tz Qiang limited express No. 272 bound for Hualien was delayed for 29 minutes after the incident.
