Taiwanese UAV manufacturer Thunder Tiger (8033.TW) has revealed a new autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) designed to enhance Taiwan’s defense capability.
Thunder Tiger executives introduced the prototype Seawolf 400 AUV combat system to President Tsai Ing-wen during the president’s visit to the Asian Drone Innovation and Application R&D Center in Chiayi County, Saturday, March 25.
The Seawolf 400 was developed by Thunder Tiger in collaboration with Taiwan Swarm Innovation Inc., the Ministry of National Defense, and National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology.
The Seawolf 400 AUV is 4 meters long, weighs around 1,000 kilograms, and is capable of sustaining speeds of 2 to 7 knots while submerged for up to 10 hours. It is specifically designed as an asymmetrical warfare combat system in response to increasing belligerent actions by China’s PLA forces in and around the Taiwan Strait.
According to reports, including Commercial Times, President Tsai expressed support for the “national drone team” and their work in strengthening Taiwan’s asymmetrical combat power.
