Typhoon Track Revised North: Expected to Intensify

The Central Weather Bureau revised the predicted path of Typhoon Talim today, expecting the storm to make landfall in Taiwan somewhere in the north of Hualian County or Ilan County. The revised path predicts that most of the island will be affected with the highest intensity in the northern and central districts.

A CWB spokesperson also said that the typhoon is expected to intensify as it approaches Taiwan due to warm sea surface temperatures and low wind-shear. The spokesperson did not rule out the possibility that it could intensify into a strong typhoon.

Meteorologist Ari Sarsalari of Weather.com predicts that Typhoon Talim may be category 3 or higher by the time it makes landfall.

The storm is currently about 1,500km from Point Eulanbi and moving north-northwest at 29kph.

A sea warning may be issued as early as tomorrow morning, Tuesday, September 12, and a land warning may be issued as early as Tuesday evening, with the main effects of the storm felt mid Wednesday to mid Thursday.

The weather bureau is also watching another low-pressure system east of the Philippines which may intensify into a typhoon.
