An oil slick formed immediately after the sinking and coast guard officers deployed oil booms around the spill to contain the pollution.

The Taima Star ferry, which operates between Matsu and Keelung, returned to port and the 78 passengers aboard were disembarked while the ship was inspected for damage. After an underwater inspection confirmed that the hull was not damaged, the Taima Star departed for Keelung at 1:20 pm.
