Truck plunges off elevated road after crashing into car

Two people were injured on National Highway 4 after a truck slammed into a broken down car then crashed through the guardrail, falling 10 meters from the elevated road section.

Taichung City Fire Department dispatched six firetrucks, two ambulances, and 24 personnel to the scene of the accident after receiving reports at 10:14 am.

Firefighters arrived to find the 50-year-old truck driver conscious but trapped in the vehicle. The truck driver was rushed to Tzu Chi Hospital with injuries described as serious but not critical. The 55-year-old female driver of the car suffered a head injury and was also conscious when sent to the hospital.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of the sedan had stopped in the outer lane due to a problem with the car. The driver of the truck is suspected to have not been paying attention to traffic conditions ahead of his vehicle.
