Tourists evacuate roller coaster after power malfunction at Taiwan amusement park
A group of tourists were forced to make an emergency exit via a narrow plankway and stairway after a power malfunction caused a roller coaster to stop at an amusement park in southern Taiwan, yesterday, June 28.
According to a press release, 16 park visitors were stuck 30 meters in the air when a power malfunction occurred on the “G5 Diving Machine” roller coaster at the Janfusun Fancy World Theme Park in Yunlin County at around 1:00 pm, Friday.
Amusement park staff guided the stranded riders out of the carriage onto a narrow plankway, and down a near-vertical set of stairs.
Park management said the facility stopped due to an unstable external power supply. All rides at the facility were stopped temporarily as a precaution. Operations were resumed around 20 minutes later.
Park managers said that safety inspections of the park’s equipment are carried out regularly to maintain visitor safety.
National power supplier, Taipower, said that power supply to the park was normal at the time of the incident.
According to the park’s website, the G5 roller coaster is 65 meters high, 384 meters long, and subjects riders to the equivalent of G5-level gravity force during a vertical drop with speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour.
