Taiwan aims to attract 100,000 foreign professionals by 2030
The government of Taiwan aims to increase the number of foreign professionals working and residing in Taiwan to 100,000 by 2030, according to the National Development Council.
Speaking at a seminar on the 2021 amendments to the Act for Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals, yesterday, November 8, NDC Deputy Minister Shih Keh-her said that it hopes to improve the recruitment laws and related supporting facilities in order to meet the goal of recruiting 10,000 foreign professionals by the end of 2022, and 100,000 by 2030.
Shih said that it has been more than 3 and a half years since the foreign talent recruitment law was enacted and more than 5,000 foreign professionals have already been recruited, including 3,319 employment gold card holders.
Amendments to the foreign talent recruitment legislation was passed by the Legislative Yuan, October 25, with the aim of improving work and residence regulations, and optimizing taxation and social security benefits.
In addition to amendments to the law, the National Development Council has also coordinated with relevant ministries to promote a number of supporting measures for recruiting talents. These include the promotion of the inter-ministerial conference “Strengthening Overseas Talents to Cultivate Taiwan” project to help solve the problems encountered in life in Taiwan, linking industries, and setting up companies.
Another initiative is the establishment of the “Employment Gold Card Office” to continue to expand the provision of comprehensive one-stop services from work to life for international talents.
At yesterday’s seminar, the National Development Council invited more than 90 guests from foreign organizations in Taiwan, chambers of commerce, industrial and commercial organizations, and community groups in Taiwan, as well as 180 people from all walks of life to participate in the online live broadcast, focusing on explaining and answering questions on the issues of employment gold cards, permanent residence and tax concessions.

100,000 foreign professionals? They better be under the age of 30 and look good enough to be part-time models.
I spent 15 months in Taiwan and never got a second interview, because after they saw my birth-date they lost interest.
Taiwan Labor Dept. claimed that age discrimination is not allowed in Taiwan. Then (1) Why all the old people with no jobs and homes lining the Long Shan Temple area? (2) Why do employers ask applicants for their birth-date? Uhhhh. Discrimination.
