Suspect arrested two days after armed bank robbery
A man was arrested in Nantou County today in connection with an armed robbery in Kaohsiung City two days ago.
At around 3:30 pm on Friday, March 25, a man dressed in a Food Panda uniform shirt, wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet, and armed with a pistol and a can of pepper spray, walked into a branch of Sanxin Bank on Chenggong South Road, Qiaotou District, as the bank was closing for business. The man pointed the pistol at a security guard, and when the guard raised his hands, sprayed a burst of pepper spray into the guard’s face.
The bank robber then leant over a counter and grabbed a bundle of NT$60,000 cash being counted by a bank teller, before fleeing to a car and escaping.
Police identified an Audi A4 with a fake license plate as the suspect’s getaway vehicle. After two days of investigation, detectives and uniformed police officers converged on a motel in Jiji Township, Nantou County at 10:40 am today, and arrested a 30-year-old man, named Zeng. Zeng was arrested in the carpark of the motel, where he was staying with his wife and two-year-old son.
Zeng at first denied the crime, but finally confessed after police found an air pistol, the vehicle used in the crime, two cans of pepper spray, and the motorcycle helmet.
