Six Injured After Car Crashes into Roadside Kitchen

Six people were rushed to hospital after a car crashed outside a restaurant in Shilin District, Taipei City this evening, Friday, December 8.

Shortly after 8:00pm, a Volvo sedan crashed into the outdoor kitchen, which was occupying a sidewalk on Lane 165, Fuhua Road, next to the Zhishan MRT Station.

Four women and 2 men were rushed to hospital with non life-threatening injuries, some caused by the vehicle’s impact, and others by scalding from hot oil and soup which splashed staff and customers. The injured included the restaurant owner, three staff, and two customers.

The 62 year-old driver, Ms Guo, told police that her car had suddenly gone out of control for an unknown reason. Immediately after the accident, Ms Guo sat trembling in her car and repeatedly apologizing, according to witnesses at the scene. Ms Guo promised again and again to assume all liability, before being taken away by police for questioning. An alcohol breath-test showed that Ms Guo had not been drinking before the accident.
