Police fire 9 shots in chase through streets of New Taipei City: 3 suspects arrested

Police arrested three men after firing nine shots at a car during a chase in Banqiao District, New Taipei City, at around noon today, Monday, December 13.

At 11:50 am, police attempted to stop a vehicle after receiving a report that a man in the back seat of the car was seen brandishing a gun at the intersection of Guoqing Road and Chongqing Road.

Police body cam footage showed the car knocking over three police motorcycles in order to escape the police stop. Police responded by firing at the tires of the vehicle.

As the driver continued in his attempt to evade arrest, further shots were fired. At one point, one of the men exited the vehicle and was arrested on Yuandong Road.

A short time later, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed on Sichuan Road. Police broke the windows of the car before finally arresting the driver and another man.

A search of the vehicle turned up a quantity of heroin, but no gun was found. Investigators suspect there may have been four people in the car at the time of the report, and that one person absconded before the road stop.

Four police officers reported minor injuries, including scratches sustained while breaking the windows of the vehicle.
