Police arrest suspect after headless, limbless corpse found in New Taipei City

Police in New Taipei City arrested a man suspected of killing his own father, just 12 hours after a headless, limbless corpse was found in a drainage channel in New Taipei City, yesterday, December 8.

At around 10:00 am, Wednesday, police received a report that a suspected human body was visible in the water in the channel beside Baoping Road in Yonghe District.

A police forensics investigation found that the body was that of a male estimated to have been around 170 centimeters tall. An examination revealed that the limbs and head of the man had been cut or sawn off. The corpse was swollen, in a state of decomposition, and was estimated to have been immersed in the water for around two days.

Investigators scanned through large amounts of surveillance camera footage, leading to the identification of a 54-year-old suspect, named Fu. Fu was arrested at his home in Shuanghe Street at 10:30 pm, and under police questioning, quickly broke down and confessed to the murder of his 84-year-old father.

According to the investigation, Fu’s father separated from Fu’s mother 30 years ago. On November 24, Fu picked his father up from a nursing home in Taichung City, and took him to his home in Yonghe District.

On November 28, while his father was sleeping, Fu smothered him with a pillow. The body was left in the house for 9 days before Fu dismembered the corpse with a utility knife. On December 6, Fu stuffed the decomposing body parts into a large, wheeled suitcase.

Surveillance footage showed Fu dragging the heavily-laden, black suitcase from his home towards a bridge over the drainage channel on Baoping Road, from where he tossed the remains into the water.

Fu has no records for violent crimes, but has several records for petty theft. When arrested for stealing grocery items, including a bottle of milk, earlier this year, Fu said that he had stolen the items for his mother.

Fu is divorced, unemployed, and has lived with his 77-year-old mother for the last 20 years. While Fu claimed the motivation for killing his own father stemmed from his father’s violence and abuse of Fu’s mother, police suspect the motive may be economic. Fu’s father owned two houses, which provided an income from rent.

At around 2:30 pm today, December 9, police investigators found the murder victim’s head around 750 meters from the location of the torso. Police are searching for the other missing parts as the investigation continues.

At 5:00 pm, police handed Fu over to the District Prosecutor’s Office to be charged for homicide and other related offences.
