Passersby rescue woman from knife-wielding robbers
Two men armed with watermelon knives jumped into a woman’s car as she pulled up in a hypermarket parking lot and demanded money in an attempted robbery in Changhua County this morning, January 3.
At around 10:00am, Ms Ye (葉), 51, had just switched off the ignition and was preparing to get out of her car in the parking lot of an RT-Mart in Puhsing Township when two men wearing motorcycle helmets and wielding watermelon knives got into her car. One man got into the back seat and pressed a blade against her neck, while another sat in the front passenger seat and said “take the money out.”
The thieves grabbed Ms Ye’s handbag, cutting her right forearm as she resisted.
Fortunately, two men delivering goods to the shopping mall noticed two men wearing motorcycle helmets in a car, and thinking this was strange, were alerted to the fact the woman was being robbed or possibly kidnapped.
The delivery men, Mr Lin, and Mr Wu, went to the woman’s assistance and managed to detain one of the suspects until police arrived.
Ms Ye required three stitches to the knife wound.
Police arrested a 48-year-old suspect named Liu (劉) at the scene of the crime, and later arrested a 47-year-old man named Hong at his home in Lugang District.
