One man died after being shot multiple times, and two bystanders were injured, after two men stormed into a tea-house in Taichung City armed with a rifle and a pistol, and fired a total of 26 shots at the deceased.
Shortly before noon, today, police received reports of a shooting at a tea-house on Zhongshan Road in Shalu District. Arriving at the scene, police were greeted by bullet casings scattered inside and outside the restaurant.
Inside the restaurant lay a 30-year-old man named Shih (史), having lost vital signs after being shot multiple times in the chest. Shih was rushed to hospital but was unable to be resuscitated, and was declared dead at around 1:00pm.
A couple who were sitting nearby, enjoying lunch with their 4-year-old daughter, were also injured. The 40-year-old woman named Wei (韋) was shot in the shoulder, and her 44-year-old husband, named Lee (李) was cut by broken glass, and had bullet fragments in his left thigh. Both were reported to be out of danger after medical treatment.
According to reports in Liberty Times Network, and Apple Daily, Shih was chatting with two friends when the gunmen entered. Upon seeing the suspects, Shih quickly got up and attempted to flee, but the suspects began shooting at close range. At one point, the suspect armed with a rifle, threw an empty magazine to the ground, and reloaded.
Police investigators found a rental car used by the suspects, parked near Chia-Yang High School in Qingshui District. The car’s interior had been destroyed by fire.
