An off-duty Criminal Investigation Bureau police officer was shot dead in a Tainan City karaoke bar in the early hours of the morning, after he ran into criminal with a long-standing grudge against him.
Liu Sanrong (劉三榮), 45, went to the karaoke bar with two colleagues after finishing work yesterday evening. While Liu was enjoying drinks and singing with his friends, a man named Mei (梅) arrived with two friends.
Knowing that Mei and Liu had grievances against each other, the owner of the bar, told Mei that Liu was inside, and persuaded him not to enter.
Liu and his colleagues left the karaoke bar at around 10:00pm, and a short time later, Mei and his two friends then showed up.
At around 1:00am, Liu went back to the karaoke bar alone. When Mei and Liu came face to face, Mei drew a pistol and fired one shot, hitting Liu in the right shoulder.
Liu bled heavily, and by the time paramedics arrived, had lost vital signs. Liu was declared dead at the hospital at around 2:30am.
Police today arrested one man and one woman who had accompanied Mei to the Karaoke bar and had left with him after the shooting.
Officer Liu had served as a police officer for 26 years. Some years ago, Liu had investigated the suspect Mei, and helped to convict him, although no details of the case, nor the nature of the crime have been reported.
Liu leaves behind three children – one who recently graduated from university, one in junior high school, and one in kindergarten.
Three years ago, Liu received an award for being a model police officer.
Liu lived with, and cared for, his elderly parents, and had recently taken a desk job after being diagnosed with a liver condition.
