Man who stalked woman for months suspected of murder after body found in Pingtung City

A man suspected of having stalked a woman for months before using a car to knock her off her scooter, and kidnapping her, is being detained on suspicion of homicide after the woman’s body was found in Pingtung City yesterday, April 9.

A massive search for a 29-year-old woman named Zeng (曾) was launched late Thursday night after witnesses reported seeing a woman bundled into a car after being knocked off her scooter by a man driving a white hatchback on Dachang Road in Wandan Township at around 10:35 pm.

Police investigating the case quickly located the owner of the suspect vehicle, only to find that he had lent his car to a 55-year-old man named Huang (黃).

Huang is suspected of having followed Ms Zeng from her workplace in Pingtung City to Wandan Township, before colliding with her scooter from behind.

According to the investigation so far, Huang first met Ms Zeng when he went to a communication company store where she worked to purchase a new phone in early February. Huang apparently became infatuated with the attractive, much younger, newlywed woman.

Huang continually returned to the store and attempted to strike up conversations with Zeng, allegedly followed her from her workplace, and at one point stroked her hand. Zeng reported Huang to police, and Huang was investigated on suspicion of sexual harassment on multiple occasions in February and March according to reports.

Huang turned himself in at a police station at around 6:30 am April 9. Huang admitted to colliding with Zeng’s scooter, but remained evasive about what happened after the incident.

Investigators tracing Huang’s movements via traffic monitor footage found Ms Zeng’s lifeless body in an empty house around 50 meters from Huang’s residence in Shuiyuan Street, Pingtung City, shortly after noon, yesterday. Zeng’s body was fully clothed and the only obvious injuries were abrasions to her limbs suspected of being caused by the collision.

An autopsy will be performed later today to determine the cause of death.

According to police statements quoted in Apple Daily and other reports, Huang’s actions were “cunning.” Huang had allegedly removed the memory card from the vehicle he borrowed before committing the crime, then turned off his own, and the victim’s mobile phones in an attempt to avoid tracking.

Huang was taken to the District Prosecutor’s Office to face multiple charges, including homicide.
