Man Suffers Burns After Go Kart Bursts into Flames

A man turned into a human fireball after the go kart he was driving erupted into flames at a go kart track in Hsinchu County today, according to reports in Apple Daily and SETN.

The twenty-one year-old man, named Peng, was enjoying a day out in sunny, warm weather, on the third day of the Lunar New Year holiday, when the accident happened in Hengshan Township shortly before 4:00 pm this afternoon.

According to United Daily News, Peng suffered burns to 70% of his body, was suffering from cramps and temperature loss, and was in a serious condition.

Eye witnesses who uploaded photos to a breaking news community on Facebook said that people nearby rushed to Peng’s assistance and plunged him into a pool beside the racetrack, while others called emergency services. Mr Peng was rushed to the Hsinchu branch of Taiwan National University Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fuel tank of the go kart ruptured, causing a fuel leak, but investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
