Man rescued from drain after trying to recover NT$10 coin

A man got stuck head first in a drain, then fell into it, after he tried to recover an NT$10 coin that he dropped while waiting for a bus in Keelung City this morning.

The 52-year-old man named Yang, was waiting for a bus on Dongming Road shortly before 11:00am, when he dropped a coin, which then rolled into the drain.

Mr Yang lifted the 60×40 centimeter cover and reached down into the one-meter-deep drain. However, he then lost his balance and fell into the drain.

Hearing Yang’s cries for help, a nearby storekeeper called the fire bureau.

After Yang, who is mildly handicapped, was rescued, the storekeeper took pity on his dirty and disheveled state, and gave him NT$200 to take a taxi home.
