Indonesian Woman Killed in Fall While Attempting Escape

An Indonesian woman working as a carer died after falling from an 11th floor window in Taichung City yesterday. Police believe the woman was attempting to escape from her employer.

At around 6:00am, November 18, the guard at an upmarket apartment complex in Taichung’s Xitun District went out to investigate after hearing the sound of a large object that had fallen. The guard didn’t find anything, but a short time later he received a call from a resident on the 11th floor saying that her maid had fallen out of a window.

The 33 year-old woman’s body was found on a second floor terrace along with two plastic bags containing her clothing and possessions.

Chinese language media reports identify the woman as “Panti.” The employer told police that Panti had worked for her for over one year and had a record of escapes. The employer said that she feared that Panti was going to make an another escape as Panti had recently been making frequent phone calls.

The employer called the employment broker to warn them, and told the building guard to be vigilant, and to block Panti if she tries to leave the building.

After a preliminary investigation police ruled out suspicion of murder, and told reporters that due to Panti’s previous records of escape attempts, they suspect she fell out of the window while trying to escape.
