A husband and wife who had just set off for a day trip to the mountains both died after being hit by a car driven by man affected by alcohol in Kaohsiung City this morning, Saturday, November 13.
The couple, riding a scooter, had just left their home to meet up with friends and relatives, and were passing through the intersection of Guangming Road and Wengyuan Road in Daliao District at 5:10 am when a black Lexus sedan driven by a 20-year-old man named Huang slammed into them.
According to the preliminary investigation, Huang had not applied the brakes at all before the crash.
Mr Chen, 53, and Ms Lee, 54, were both unconscious when paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident. Both lost vital signs before arriving at the hospital and were declared dead a short time after arrival.
Huang suffered multiple bruises and a spinal injury. A blood test at the hospital found that Huang had a blood alcohol level of 0.41mg/l, well over the legal limit of 0.15mg/l. A 17-year-old passenger in Huang’s car was not injured.
