Continuous Rain Causes Rockfalls and Traffic Hazards
Three days of continuous rain has resulted in rockfalls, road-blockages, and a spate of traffic accidents in Taiwan, Wednesday, November 23. On Provincial Highway 9(the Su-hua Highway), a 55 year-old woman was seriously injured in a traffic accident at around 10:00am. The woman was riding as a passenger on a scooter when it collided with a semi-trailer at the 116km mark. A series of rockfalls saw the road temporary blocked in several locations, as road crews rushed to clear debris.

A 46 year-old Canadian man was found dead in a hotel in Wanhua District at around 9:00pm, November 8, 2016. Firefighters who responded to a report found the man in bed with his head covered with a plastic bag. A suicide note was found beside the body. Investigators said that when the body was found, rigor mortis had already set in. The man had been staying at the hotel, which is located on Xining South Rd, since sometime last month.

Village elders have fond memories of the well, which served as the village’s sole source of water until reticulated water was introduced in the 1950s. Workers are currently dredging the 55 meter deep well. Water will be tested for safety, and may be used for watering public gardens in the future.
