Canadian Man Charged for Sexual Harrassment

A Canadian citizen visiting Taiwan as a tourist, is facing charges of sexual harassment, and has been restricted from leaving the country, after two women filed complaints to police in Taipei City.

Bouazza Mounib, 27, allegedly approached a female reporter at Zhongxiao-Xinsheng MRT Station in the afternoon of April 12, and attempted to start a conversation with her. The reporter told police that Mounib touched her hair, and she yelled, “Don’t touch Me!” Mounib then allegedly stamped on her foot, according to a SETN report, or kicked her in the buttocks, according to Liberty Times Network.

After Mounib left the MRT station, he allegedly approached a female student who was walking on Bade Road, and touched her chest. Both women filed reports to police. Police were said to have quickly applied for an arrest warrant for the suspect, because he is foreign, and therefore may flee the country.

According to Liberty Times, Mounib was arrested at a rental suite in Xinyi District on Sunday, April 15.

Mounib told police that he had kicked the reporter because she insulted him in English, according to SETN, or ignored him, according to Liberty Times, and that he had accidentally touched the female student’s chest when stretching his arms.

SET News and China Times both led their reports by suggesting that Mounib may have mistakenly believed an Internet meme that “Taiwan girls are easy.” Apple Daily also ran the same angle, adding references to “western sausages.”
