Firefighters found the burned corpse of a driver after extinguishing a fire that consumed a car after a crash in in Taichung City this morning, May 27.

The Taichung City Fire Department received reports that a car was ablaze after crashing through a fence in a dead end street in Daya District at around 9:30 am.

Two fire trucks, an ambulance, and five personnel were dispatched to the scene of the blaze in Fenglin Street.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters found a corpse burned beyond recognition in the driver’s seat, and were unable to even distinguish the gender of the driver.

The car was identified by its license plate as a rented Mercedes Benz. A preliminary investigation identified a man as the probable deceased, but positive identification by DNA is yet to confirm the identity.

The family of the suspected deceased told police investigators that the man had been unwell due to low blood sugar, and fatigue may have been a factor in the accident.

According to a witness, the white Mercedes Benz hit a tree before plowing through a fence and getting stuck.

According to Apple Daily News, the driver had attempted to reverse out of the predicament by accelerating repeatedly before the vehicle caught fire.
