7 injured in freeway accident: just one of more than 5.5k incidents of “not paying attention” so far this year
Seven people were sent to hospital after a car slammed into the back of a broken down vehicle on the Zhongshan Freeway this morning, and it was just one of more than 5,500 cases of “failing to pay attention to traffic conditions in front of the vehicle” so far this year, the National Highway Police Bureau said.
The Chiayi County Fire Department dispatched a total of six vehicles, including four ambulances after receiving reports of the accident at 12:28 am at the 273.8 kilometer south mark in Shuishang Township.
According to reports, one car had broken down in a traffic lane and was stopped with hazard lights flashing when another vehicle slammed into it from behind.
Seven people were rushed to hospital, one after being cut out of the mangled wreck of one of the cars. Among the injured were and 8-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl, and adults aged between 20 and 60. All the injured were conscious and no injuries were life-threatening.
The National Highway Police Bureau said that failure to pay attention to traffic conditions in front of the vehicle was the second among the top ten causes of accidents on the national highway, with 5,507 such incidents reported between January and October this year.

Meanwhile, what do the “authorities” want us to look at? It’s always the collated figures for COVID COVID CONVID CONNEDVID. How many actual fatalities have come from that so far this year for the so-called “disease” and, more importantly, from the after-effects of the so-called “vaccines”? And how many for the traffic atrocities we read about virtually EVERY DAY? Never any collated figures for that. In the mainstream, it’s always reported on a case-by-case basis, each one dealt with separately as if there were NO COMMON THREADS.
Yesterday I was wondering about the total so far this year in Taiwan for these “accidents,” and lo and behold today it’s right here for all to see: 5.507 incidents of “failing to pay attention,” which would be many more if other causes are taken into account. (DOI would doubtless be the worst of the lot).
Now let’s get serious: is this or is this not an issue for national shame and universal concern? I would say “failing to pay attention” to the road ahead would 9 times out of 10 involve the casual use of a mobile phone by the driver. Taiwan needs to get real on this. When I was a kid, we had a TV Court broadcast out of Detroit. The judge kept saying over and over and over again: DRUNK DRIVERS GO TO JAIL. Using a cellphone while driving must be classified as a form of distraction and thus “drunkenness.”
Abusers must 1) Go to jail, whether they have caused an accident or not, and, like in Finland, they must have their licences revoked FOR LIFE. NO MORE DRIVING, EVER. Violators from then on would be dealt with as chongkefan (repeat offenders), and we all know what that can mean. Say bye bye to your freedoms for most of the rest of your useless and offensive life.
