29 Injured in Bus Crash
Twenty-eight passengers and the driver of a bus were injured in a crash near Keelung this morning. None of the injuries were described as serious.
At around 9:20am the driver lost control of the bus as it was rounding a bend and hit the guardrail. The coach mounted the concrete guardrail and was left straddling it after the crash.
The coach was one of 6 hired to take the employees of an accountancy firm from Xinyi District in Taipei City to Yangmei. Most of the passengers suffered slight injuries such as bruising and abrasions. The most serious injury was a fractured leg. The injured were distributed among three hospitals in Keelung City.
The 53 year-old driver was administered an alcohol breath test which came up zero. Police said that a combination of speed and unfamiliarity with the road appeared to be contributing factors in the accident.
The Fire Department dispatched two fire trucks, 11 ambulances, and 25 personnel to the scene of the accident.
