2 dead, 3 injured after scaffolding collapse at construction site in southern Taiwan
Two people died and three were injured after scaffolding collapsed at a construction site in Yunlin County this afternoon, Saturday, July 6.
According to reports, the scaffolding collapse occurred at the Formosa Advanced Technology Company (FATA/Fumao Technology TW:8131) in Henan Street, Doulio City at 4:12 pm. Yunlin County Fire Department dispatched six fire trucks, six ambulances, and 31 personnel to the scene of the accident.
Firefighters found 15 people trapped under the collapsed scaffolding. A 40-year-old man was dead, having suffered a severe head injury. A 45-year-old woman was without vital signs, and was declared dead after being rushed to the hospital. Another three people, aged 40, 43, and 46, were injured and sent to the hospital. Ten people were rescued without injuries.
The area where the accident occurred was under a heavy rain advisory at the time and subject to strong wind gusts. Work at the site has been suspended pending an investigation into the collapse.
Fumao Technology Company said that there are four factories on the site, and the fifth factory building is under construction. The construction site was closed today and the injured and trapped were workers who were going home after completing their shift at factory four.
